Crowfield Spellbook Update #1

At the end of December, I talked about my plan to write spellbook for Crowfield

The first part of the plan was to write-up all the converted spells.  I set a deadline of late March for that.  Fortunately, the Swords & Wizardry writes-ups were amazing, and I'm now done.

Why are Adventurers so Slow?

One thing I never understood about Dungeons & Dragons was how amazingly slow a person walks.

As I’ve mentioned before, my real-life walking speed is about 3 miles per hour (give or take based on encumbrance & fatigue). How does that compare to a character in the old D&D rules? As always the answer is “it depends.” But let’s walk through it…1

Monsters Never Save, Part 2

One of my goals for this year is to make shorter blog posts. I feel that I’ve been rambling trying to make sure I explain everything, and that doesn’t necessarily make for an enjoyable read.

So when I wrote the Monsters Never Save post, I left some things unexplained. Then Zomus offered suggestions that I’d already considered. That makes me feel bad, like I wasted his time.

This week’s post is addressing his reply to that post.  His reply is in italics.

Monsters Never Save

Back in July, I wrote about a house rules where monsters never miss in combat. The logic was that the story is about the PCs, not the monsters. So instead of the monsters rolling to hit, the players would roll to defend.

A week later, I wrote about my magic casting variant where players have to make a successful roll in order to cast a spell.

As I was translating the spell book for the latter, it occurred to me that I have significantly “nerfed” the spell casters.
